SOUTHERN ENGLISH SETTER SOCIETY CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW

November 17 th 2002

Judge: Mrs Joy Field DOGS:

My thanks to the Officers and Committee for inviting me to judge the dogs at their Championship Show and for their warm hospitality. The new venue provided the benefit of generous sized rings and good lighting. I had many lovely dogs to go over but I have one main concern regarding mouths. The incisors in many cases are so small that with normal wear and tear they are likely to be worn away at a very early age. This fault together with level bites gives cause for concern.

SOUTHERN ENGLISH SETTER SOCIETY CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW

BITCHES

Judge Sue Wilkinson

It was nice judging the breed again but feel that the overall quality is not what it used to be particularly in the puppy classes and this is where the breeding stock of the future lies. The Open Bitch was a tremendous class; the first four could change places any day. The feet on two third of the entry was appalling. No amount of roadwork will ever change bad feet. This is a fallacy. It is in the breeding, so do give this some consideration. Tails are another problem. They should be set almost in line with the back. Many were set on to low detracting from a level topline. There were not to many gay tails but the ones with them were those whose tails were set very low.

MINOR PUPPY (13.3) Difficult class to judge as they were all so naughty, but this is so much nicer than seeing them terrified, 1.Pearces Westonfields Pick A Lily mature eight month old blue, nice head, neck and shoulders, good all through, well muscled a little erratic on the move, but when she did settle she went well. 2.Frosts Tremorgan Blaze' Of Dreams pretty tricolour in good coat, pretty head, good neck and shoulders, well sprung ribs nice, not quite the feet of winner. 3.Bakers Mandyset The Futures Orange.

PUPPY (10. 5) 1.Hendersons Brenholm Spring Gift. 2, Bowens Brenholm Morning Sun At Chelmsett. I see they are litter sisters, Two very promising babies with lovely heads and expressions, both nicely made with good spring of rib and good feet. Both went well on the move, not a lot between them, but felt the winner was better in neck and was best puppy bitch. 3. Halsteads Hammoon Hidden Treasure.

VETERAN (4.2) 1 Halsteads Sh.Ch. Rockstro The-Night Fly Of Hammoon, very attractive dark blue who certainly deserves her title, lovely head, clean neck, good shoulders nice back end, good feet, really moved using her tail. 2. Jennings Canteris Conchita, a lot to like about her, was not so vivacious on the move

JUNIOR (15.6) 1 Bakers Mandyset Merry Go Round. I liked this tri, lovely head, good neck, shoulders bend of stifle, feet could be a little tighter, but stylish on the move when she settled. 2 Schonevilles Balvenie Marbree, pretty headed tri, very short coupled fore and aft, nice tail set, sound. 3. McCabe Rachdale Wild Flower.

SPECIAL YEARLING (5.2) I Colliers Bondgate Moment Of Madness At Rosarke, my type, prettv headed tri, lovely expression, dark eye, good neck shoulders and quarters, beautifully presented as are all from this, kennel, nice on the move. She has a bright. future. RCC. 2.Tompsetts Radbrooks Wouldn't It Be Nice difficult to go over as she was naughty, nice type, moved well.3,McCabes Rachdale Wild Flower.

MAIDEN 1 Bowens Brenhohn Morning Sun At Chelmset.

NOVICE (7.4) 1 Bakers Mandyset Merry Go Round 2. Jennings Capriata. 3. Aults Silversun Solstice Eve.

TYRO (5. 1) Buckleys Fishwick Maybe Baby. I liked her overall confirmation but found her a little plain in head. Very sound and won the class on her movement. 2.Tomsetts Radbrooks Wouldn't It Be Nice. 3.McCabes Rachdale Wild Flower.

GRADUATE (7.1) 1.Buckleys Fishwick Sunflower, orange, a true English, just my type, beautiful head and expression, presented to perfection, lovely on the move, tail set could be a little higher. 2.Reiths Elusive Secret Shadow, dark blue, a little out of coat but correctly constructed and moved well, not quite the head or expression of winner.3. Bartholomews Bartholeys Scarlet Ribbons.

POST GRADUATE (21.9) There were an awful lot of light eyes in this class. 1. Halsteads Hammoon Little Nutmeg. Not a big bitch but very sound. Sweet head, nice expression, good shoulders, well sprung ribs, not to long in loin. Immaculate as are all from this kennel. 2. Bakers Mandyset Jiggery Pokery, dark orange, nice head, expression, good reach of neck, good shoulders and bend of stifle, correct tail set. moved well using her tail. 3.Pearces Westonfields Honeysuckle.

LIMIT (12.5) 1. Wilkinson & Ludbrooks Beckantie Pipit. Very pretty headed dark blue, lovely dark eye, clean neck, well-laid shoulders, good quarters, sound mover. I liked her type. 2.Taylors & Searchs Bocharo Sapphire Blue of Wansleydale, dark blue, slightly rangier and not so mature as one, another nice type, moved well. 3.Kays Steelcross Blue Diamond.

OPEN (10. 5) 1. Morgan & Botts Roszarke Masquerade Behind Quensha. A beautiful headed tri with melting expression, long clean neck set into well-laid back shoulders. excellent spring of rib and not to long in loin, nice bend of stifle, correct tail set and feet. In lovely hard condition. I gave her the RCC when she was a junior and now she has matured she deserved her CC and Best In Show. Well done. 2. Cocketts SH.CH.Hollygrove Little White Lie. Blue. Another lovely bitch who certainly deserves her title. So much to like about her, and unfortunate to meet the winner. 3.Stubbingtons SH.CH. Bondgate Midnight Madness.

SPECIAL BEGINNERS (6.2) 1. Reiths Elusive Secret Shadow. 2.Tompsetts Radbrooks Wouldn't It Be Nice. 3.McCabes Rachdales Wild Flower.
