SOUTHERN ENGLISH SETTER SOCIETY

CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW SUNDAY 16TH NOVEMBER 2014

DOGS:

I would like to thank the Society for their very welcome hospitality and special thanks to my very abled stewards. I thoroughly enjoyed my appointment but feel that careful attention, in my opinion, should be directed to the all too common gay tails that seem prevalent in the breed, which so much spoil a Setter in movement and also to the rather ‘alien’ large flat feet, instead of those tight well arched toes the breed should have. Both of these elements detract from the elegant Setter we look for in both appearance and movement. However overall I was very pleased with the quality of the entry.

MPD (3) 1. Jones Kerrimer Sing the Blues for Redbornstoke. Very attractive upstanding 8 month old tri, plenty of work to head, kind expression, good round bone, to be expected at this age needs to tighten in front, pleasing outline, level top line, a little more weight would be to his advantage, but moved true, fore and aft, in super coat and condition.

2. Osmans Bournehouse Star Gazer at Marissolo. 6 month baby of great substance, shown in good coat and condition, well ribbed, deep body, again needs to tighten in front, attractive masculine head, kind expression, lean neck, correct bend of stifle which enabled him to move well, using his tail correctly.

3. Parkers Hannahdene Red Jasper.

PD: (6.2) 1. Morgan & Botts Quensha Back to the Future. Most attractive dark tri who presented a very pleasing outline when stood, head is a little unbalanced at present, deep flews with skull needing to develop and balance up, time on his side, kind expressive eyes, clean neck into well laid back shoulders, short back, good bend of stifle, tail set well on, shown in lovely hard condition and covered the ground well with slashing tail. BPD

2. Dales Beechanger Night Hawk Over Laurelset. This orange has the most appealing head, with soft expression, lean neck into well laid back shoulders, level top line, deep body, good second thigh, movement was good and sound but a little proud of his tail.

3. Jones Kerrimere Sing the Blues for Redbornstoke.

VETERAN: I compliment the veterans on their presentation and condition. (3) 1. Jolleys Sh Ch Wansleydale Loganberry at Jolymore ShCM. I do have a soft spot for this striking dark blue but he did not win this class on sentiment, he moved the best I have ever seen, really on his toes. Well chiselled head, soft expression, wonderful round bone with the tightest of feet, toes well arched, well ribbed and deep in body, short coupled, in full coat, moved with slashing tail. BVIS

2. Wrights Sh Ch Fishwick Dancing Lad. This orange carries his title well, refined head, kind expression, good body properties, lean neck into good layback of shoulder, deep body, again in very good coat but just did not put all into his moving today.

3. Salmons Burleycott Irish Cream.

JUNIOR: A good class. (7.1) 1. Colliers Gamerights Mr Blue Sky at Roszarke (Imp Bel). This elegant 16 mth blue presented a clean outline, most lovely lean head yet retaining masculinity, kind expression, excels in straight front, bone and feet, carrying the correct amount of weight, strong clean neck into well laid back shoulder, level back, good bend of stifle, presented in first class order, moving very well using his tail. Should have a bright future.

2. Wale and Baileys Wansleydale Kings Magic. Just 13 mths this light orange presented a lovely flowing outline when stood, slightly fine mould than 1 but perfectly balanced. Refined head, lovely expression, well placed shoulder and straight front, good quarters and tail set. Presented in lovely coat and condition, moved well, another one for the future.

3. Mellishs Walshaw Blinded By Love For Monbrec.

YD: (4) 1. Gilberts Brucelm Wyke Hill at Shodowood. Upstanding orange, refined head which would benefit broadening in the skull to present a more balanced picture, however has kind eye, good round bone, feel well padded, good lay of shoulder, correct turn of stifle, in good coat and condition, correct level tail which he used when moving well.

2. Bennets Mariglen Blue Star. Attractive blue with strong masculine head, strong neck into laid back shoulder, good round bone, slightly longer cast then 1, moved well quite proud of his tail today.

3. Feericks Canonsett Highland Mist.

NOVICE: (7.2) 1. Colliers Gamerights Mr Blue Sky at Roszarke (Imp Bel).

2. Wale & Baileys Wansleydale Kings Magic.

3. Gilberts Brucelm Wykehill at Shodowood.

GRADUATE: Good class. (5.1) 1. Fishers Beechanger Dusty Miller, orange, this substantial honest dog has no exaggerations. Masculine head with soft expression, strong neck flowing into well laid back shoulders, strong level top line, well ribbed, deep body, good bone and padded feet, correct bend of stifle, perfect tail set off the back which he used correctly moving with verve to take the class. In the challenge he just seemed to be fighting his handler which affected his movement.

2. Urens Bensophie Dark Crystal. This beautifully presented light blue has certainly come on. Finer mould than 1 but perfectly balanced, he has the most appealing yet masculine head, kind expression, clean, lean neck into well laid back shoulders, straight front, well set on tail which he used when he moved sound and true around the ring.

3. Mellishs Gemsett Pole Position for Monbrec.

POST GRAD: (9.1) 1. Whittingtons Juldeane Excalibur, a dog unknown to me, but one I really liked. This tri dog has a most lovely refined head, kind expression, long lean neck into good layback of shoulder, deep in body, strong level back, tail excellently set, round bone, tight feet, presented overall a very elegant and balanced picture when stood, good condition and coat and moved out well. In the challenge he just tended to move a little close behind.

2. Osmons Bournehouse Design at Marissolo ShCM. Upstanding blue, masculine head, kind eye, strong neck, deep body, slightly longer cast than 1, presented in good coat and condition, moved well and happily using his tail.

3. Croft & Littlechilds Ravensett Royal Legacy with Thistlesett.

LIMIT (9) Super Class. 1. Kellys Richecca Shades of Grey JW. This very elegant tri just commanded attention when stood, built on such clean flowing lines, refined head, kind expression, long clean neck into well laid back shoulders, good round bone, deep body, level back, well muscled quarters, well set tail, and excellent presentation, shown in full coat completed the picture. Each and every time this dog was asked to move, he never failed to please, long striding, driving off his hocks, straight and true with slashing tail. Privilege to award him I understand his 3rd CC and with my co judge BOB & BIS.

2. Stubbingtons Quensha Oh What a Night at Bondgate. Good honest tri dog, masculine head with the most melting expression, strong neck into well laid back shoulders, straight front, good round bone and padded feet, short compact body, correct tail set, good quality coat, well muscled quarters and once concentrated and settled he moved out freely and effortlessly. This I am sure is the beginning of his best to come RCC.

3. Watts Jotunhein Limited Edition.

Very attractive blue with masculine head, kind eye strong neck into good shoulder layback, well ribbed in fact a little less weight I felt would have been to his advantage, deep body, strong quarters and presented in lovely coat, just did not put his all into moving today.

I would like to 'thank' everyone for entering this special 'Suntop Memorial Class' under me and for giving me a variety of different ages to go over. I enjoyed the show and hospitality of all concerned. 'Thank You'

1st. Taylor's - Wetherby Whisper to Wansleydale. What a pretty Dark Tri bitch, she caught my eye when entering the ring and did not disappoint, when I went over her. Only 15 months old, with good confirmation throughout. Dark eye, clean neck, good spring of ribs and just the right amount of bone, very feminine. Tight feet, good topline and tailset, which she kept on the move, was a pleasure to watch. She won a very strong class of different aged entries. Well done.
