Southern English Setter Society open show13th July 2014 Judge: Mrs Anne Derry (Balvenie) A big thank you to officers and committee for the wonderful hospitality extended to me at this lovely breed club open show. I really enjoyed my day and thank exhibitors for their courtesy and sporting acceptance of my decisions. Best in show was the bitch Culverwell Calamity Jane, Reserve Best in Show was the dog Bramstorm Walk the Line, Best Puppy in Show was the dog Mandysett Leave it to Lewis at Halliana and the Best Veteran was the dog Sh Ch Fishwick Dancing Lad Mpd(0) Pd (1) 1 Harradine's Mandysett Leave it to Lewis at Halliana . Nearly twelve month old tri dog, just right for his age. Clean outline, good reach of neck into well laid back shoulders. Masculine head, but not over done, low set ears and lovely dark eyes. Well off for bone, well ribbed up and plenty of body. Good rear angulation. When settled he moved well, using his tail and maintaining his top line. Feet just need to tighten. Best puppy dog and Best puppy in show Vd (2) 1 Wright's Sh Ch Fishwick Dancing Lad, 8 year old darker orange presenting a balanced outline and in good coat and condition. Masculine head with dark eyes, reachy neck into good layback of shoulders. Short coupled and with good rear angulation. Strode out well, maintaining top line on the move. Enjoyed his day out and was happy to award him best veteran in show. 2 Dunks Samelen one Man, lighter orange of nearly 9years. Another with balanced outline, though slightly longer cast than 1. Masculine head and good reach of neck into well laid back shoulders. Not quite the rear angulation of the class winner. In good coat and condition. Moved with drive, but not just as true as 1 in front. Class4 Junior dog (4 , 1 absent) 1 Mellish's Walshaw Blinded by Love for Monbrec, blue dog of 13months with lots to like. Smaller mould but still masculine. Correct head, with lovely dark eye and low set ears. Well laid back shoulders. Well off for bone and body, well ribbed up. Short coupled, with good rear angulation. Moved well, once he settled 2 Bennett's Mariglen Blue Star, 17 month old blue. Slightly longer cast and not quite as together as the winner. Masculine head, but just lacking in stop at the moment. Well laid back shoulders and OK for bone. Rear angulation not quite as good as 1, but did move with drive. Just needs time to come together. 3 Gilbert's Brucelm Wyke Hill of Shadowood Yd (5, 2 absent) 1 Feerick's Canonsett Highland Mist, dark blue dog of 18 months. Masculine head, but not over done. Dark eye and correct ear set. Reachy neck into well laid back shoulders, short coupled. Good rear angulation, moved well once settled, maintained top line on the move. Not in his best coat yet, but this will complete the picture as he matures. 2 Kirsch's Sorbus Hugo Boss, light orange of 20 months. Masculine head and dark eye, correct ear set. Good reach of neck, but not the layback of shoulder of 1. Slightly longer cast, but still balanced. Good rear angulation and moved out well, just slightly proud of his tail at the moment. 3 Hodge's Lakecastle Tomo

GD (4) 1 Tompsett's Radbrooks God only knows, smaller made but really balanced blue dog. Masculine head with good stop, dark eye and correct ear set. Good reach of neck into well laid back shoulders. Well ribbed up and good angulation behind. Shown in super hard condition, moved well. 2 Leather's Meldor-sett Laird of Avalon at Pewterspeare (imp) dark tri dog of heavier build. Masculine head, good layback of shoulder and well ribbed up. Well off for bone and substance. Good rear angulation and moved with drive. Just not as true on the move as 1 3 Warrington's Culverwell Causing Chaos
Pgd 1 and reserve best dog Whittington's Juldeane Excalibur ShCM, one I have judged and liked before. Lovely balanced tri, with masculine head and dark eye. Good layback of shoulder and correct return of upper arm. Well off for bone and body. Good rear angulation, moved well and true coming and going. Shown in good coat and condition. Just lost out to open winner for best dog on maturity. His best is yet to come. 2 Croft and Littlechild's Ravensett Royal Legacy with Thistlesett, dark blue with lovely masculine head and dark eye. Reachy neck into well laid back shoulders,straight front. Well ribbed up and correct rear angulation. Not the drive of 1 on the move, nor as true. Shown in splendid coat. 3 Atyeo's Hazysunsett Vivaldi Ld(2) 1 Wood's Swannery Magical Moment dark blue with masculine head and dark eye. Adequate reach of neck into good layback of shoulder. Shown in good coat. Good rear angulation and moved with drive 2 Harradine's Mandysett Matinee Idol at Halliana,orange dog with lovely outline. Masculine head with melting setter expression. Good reach of neck and well laid back shoulders. Well off for bone and body. Correct rear angulation and tail set. Thought he would be my class winner but he just did not get it together on the move. I am sure he will do well once his movement is sorted. OD (2) 1and best dog Oliver's Bramstorm Walk the Line , dark tri dog with balanced outline. Masculine head and correct low ear set. Good layback of shoulder and return of upper arm. Well ribbed up and plenty of body and bone. Well angulated rear and correct tail set. Not in his best coat, but nothing to hide. Moved well and with drive. Reserve Best in Show 2Salmon's Burleycott Irish Cream, light orange with masculine head. Good layback of shoulder and well off for body and bone. Also not in his best coat. Moved true and with drive. His handler improves each time she shows. Beginners dog (5) 1 Juldeane Excalibur, 2Culverwell causing chaos, tri dog with masculine head. Adequate reach of neck and layback of shoulder. Well bodied and well ribbed up. Good rear angulation. Moved well once he settled. 3 Burleycott Irish Cream Mpb (2) 1and best puppy bitch Stirk's Mariglen Perfect Day for Grakar 8 month old blue bitch with lovely balanced outline. Sweetest of heads and lovely dark eye. Reachy neck and well laid back shoulders. Good body and bone. Straight front and good rear angulation. Very steady on the move and true coming and going. Reserve best puppy in show, just losing out to the dog on maturity. 2 Oliver's Wansleydale Fairie Queen at Bramstorm Similar comments as for class winner. Pretty orange bitch, who really played her handler up today. Not quite the balance of 1 at the moment and not as steady, or true on the move Two very promising puppies Pb 1 Wansleydale Fairie Queen at Bramstorm 2 Longstaff and Waller's Mandyset May Contain Nuts, blue bitch of 11 months. Lacking in maturity at the moment and unsettled when being gone over. Pretty girl, with reasonable angulation front and rear. Needs to body up. Moved true. Just needs time. Vb (2) 1 Rockall's Settrenda Golden Fern at Lesnee, dark orange bitch of 7 years. Feminine head and dark eye. Good reach of neck into well laid back shoulders. Tight front and well ribbed up. Good rear angulation. Moved true, driving out well. Obviously enjoyed her day out. Reserve best veteran in show 2 Davis's Culverwell Calypso of Merlycopse, 7 and a half lighter orange. Feminine head and reachy neck. Not the layback of shoulder of 1. Well bodied, but longer cast than class winner. Moved with drive, just not as true as 1. Good coat and condition, a credit to her owner. Jb(2 1 absent) 1 and best bitch and Best in Show Montell's Culverwell Calamity Jane, light tri bitch of 16 months. Lovely feminine head and dark eye, correct ear set. Straight front, reachy neck into excellent shoulders. Well off for bone and body. Well ribbed up and good rear angulation. Presented a super balanced outline and moved with drive, maintaining top line. In gleaming coat and condition. Alone in the class but a very worthy winner who filled my eye. Very happy to award her Best in Show Yb (3 1 absent) 1 Rockall's Settrenda Promise of Love for Lesnee, feminine tri bitch. Lovely head with dark eye and correct ear set. Good reach of neck into well angulated shoulders. Well off for bone and well ribbed up. Good rear angulation used to effect on the move. True coming and going. Shown in good coat. 2 Mandyset May Contain Nuts Nb (4 1 absent) 1 Mariglen Perfect Day for Grakar 2 Collis and Passey's Richecca Fallen Angel, pretty light orange with good reach of neck, but not the layback of shoulder of 1. Well bodied and good rear angulation. Moved true but not as steadily as the winner. Shown in good conditio 3 Settrenda Promise of Love for Lesnee Gb (6. 2absent) 1 Cooper's Settrenda Promise to Love, feminine orange bitch with sweet head. Good reach of neck and well laid back shoulders. Plenty of body and well ribbed up. Lovely neat feet and moved well once settled. Shown in good coat and condition 2 Davis's Richecca Baby Doll of Merlycopse , tri bitch of larger build than 1. Balanced head and lovely dark eye, adequate reach of neck and good layback of shoulder. Correct rear angulation and moved out well, just not as true as class winner. Shown in lovely coat. 3 Stirk's Twyline Truly Skysablaze over Grakar Pgb (3) 1 Atyeo's Hazysunsett Carisimi pretty blue bitch with feminine head. Reachy neck and correct front. Good shoulder angulation. Well ribbed up and plenty of bone and body. Good rear angulation and correct tail set. Moved with drive. 2 Montell's Culverwell Miss Demeanour , tri bitch with stronger head than 1. Good lay back of shoulder and adequate reach of neck. Straight front and well ribbed up. Well bodied and plenty of bone. Moved with drive. Shown in good coat and really hard condition. 3 Stirk's Ravensett Suzannah via Grakar Lb (2) 1 Grimsdell's Tattersett Frankel (jw) blue with a lovely feminine head and dark eye. Reachy neck into good layback of shoulder. Straight front. Well ribbed up and with correct sweep of stifle. Moved out well and was true coming and going. Just lost out in the challenge for best bitch because rear movement was not as good as in the class. Shown in very good coat and condition. 2 Tompsett's Radbrooks Kokomo, blue with balanced head and correct ear set and lovely dark eye. Good reach of neck but not the shoulder placement of 1. Well ribbed up and correct rear angulation. Moved true and with drive and shown in hard condition. Not yet the finish of the class winner. Ob (2. 1 absent) 1 Cooper's Walshaw Frosted Lace among Settrenda, Pretty blue bitch. Feminine head and nice dark eye. Adequate reach of neck and layback of shoulder. Level top line maintained on the move. Well ribbed up and in good coat. Correct rear angulation. Moved true. Beginners bitch 1 Richecca Baby Doll of Merlycopse, 2 Richecca Fallen Angel Brace 1 Stirk's bitch brace, moved out well together, presenting a lovely balanced pairing. 2 Mellish's dog brace, started off moving really well together, but one felt that biting his companions ear was in order, which spoilt their symmetry somewhat! Really made me smile, so typically English setter!

Michael Winch Yearling Memorial Award (8,2) 1. Kirsch's Sorbus Hugo Boss. Orange belton dog of 21 months. Pleasing lean head with dark eyes . Clean outline with good length of neck, straight front, and level top line which he held on the move. Well-boned and muscled, very well presented and in good coat. 2. Oliver's Wansleydale Faerie Queen at Bramstorm. Promising 8 months orange bitch, with lovely outline when stood. Pretty head and expression from dark eyes. Well-angulated, well-sprung ribs and good tail set. Neat feet. Really liked her but she was giving her handler a hard time today. 3. Hodge's Lakecastle Tomo Lesley Allan-Scott Open Memorial Award 1. Whittington's Juldeane Excalibur ShCM. Blue belton and tan dog with pleasing masculine head and dark eye. Presented a clean outline with straight front, level topline, ribs leading well back and correct tailset. Moved true and with style. 2. Oliver's Bramstorm Walk the Line. Substantial dark blue belton and tan dog with masculine head and expression. Strong round bone, short-backed and well ribbed. Well-angulated fore and aft. Moved steadily with good width behind. 3.
