SOUTHERN ENGLISH SETTER SOCIETY. OPEN SHOW 21th July 2019. My thanks to the committee for the invitation to judge & for their warm welcome & hospitality. My thanks must also go to my 2 stewards who kept the ring running smoothly. BIS was Oliver's Bramstorm Oberon, RBIS Day's Mandyset Oh Boy at Decoverly, BV Jolley's Wansleydale Tribute to Jollymore & BP Dennis, Morgan & Harris' Gemsett Ice Cold In Alex at Mariglen. On the whole mouths were good, but there were a worrying number of gay tails, spoiling the elegant outline on the move. I also found it concerning, that well angulated shoulders were hard to find, especially in the dogs. PD(1,1ab). VD (4,1) 1 Jolley & Taylor's Wansleydale Tribute to Jolymore. 9 year old o/b with a pleasing head & dark eye. Strong well padded feet with a well angulated rear. Deep in brisket & well off for coat. Moved out well with a correctly set tail RBD & BVIS. 2 Mellish's Gemsett Pole Position for Monbrec. Dark b/b who could do with a little bit more weight to his advantage. Handsome head & eye, strong bone with a balanced outline, moved well. 3 Holland's Shanandi Golden Sunset. JD (3,1) 1 Taylor & Atyeo's Samelen Comeback Special. A dark b/b built on a smaller frame. Well proportioned head with lovely dark eye & a correct bite. In lovely coat & condition. Moved with style, but needs time to tighten up in movement. 2 Wright's Sorbus Dance The Night Away, O/b in fabulous coat. Good eye shape & colour, straight front with a well turned stifle. Rather proud of his tail today & movement could of been stronger. YD (3,1) 1 Worthy's Tattersett Big Orange. Nicely balanced o/b with strong bone & feet, correct mouth with dark oval eyes. Moved out soundly. 2 Salmon's Tattersett Eminent, well grown o/b with a lovely straight silky coat, moved ok with a slashing tail. ND (1) 1 Jenkinson's Culverwell Spot Of Trouble. Dark b/b, correct dentition, with a nice turn of stifle. Needs time to mature & develop in body. GD (1) 1 Jenkinson's Culverwell Spot Of Trouble. PGD (3,1) 1 Mellish's Wattlewood Silver Arrow to Monbrec. This b/b has a long lean head with dark eye & a correct mouth. Well turned rear angulation with a balanced outline while standing. Moved well with a short slashing tail. 2 Salmon's Gillancette Day Dreamer, lovely headed o/b with a happy wagging tail. Taller on the leg than 1 & needs more time to mature. LD (4) 1 Oliver's Bramstorm Oberon. 3 year old o/b who has the most gorgeous outline, standing & on the move. A handsome dog with a well proportioned long lean head, dark oval eyes, correct angulation fore & rear, long reaching neck flowing into a well set tail. Moved with reach & drive with his head carried high. BD & BIS with a bit to spare, must have a promising future. 2 Taylor & Atyeo's Samelen Harris Tweed. A masculine dog built on a larger frame, lovely coat & condition, with correct proportions, level topline leading to a well set tail. Moved out well. 3 Jolley's Anlory Burano via Jolymore. MPB (1 ) 1 Sharpies' Kanietter Saphira. 8 month light b/b with the sweetest of expressions, well angulated quarters with a well developed body for her age. Just needs to gain some confidence. PB (4) 1 Dennis, Morgan & Harris' Gemsett Ice Cold In Alex at Mariglen. Well grown 9 month o/b who oozes quality & type, well proportioned head with dark oval eye, straight front with correct length & angulation of upper arm, well developed body. So very steady & true on the move with a high head carriage. A promising puppy BPB & BPIS. 2 Oliver's Bramstorm Speckled Wood. At just 9 months this b/b/t doesn't have the maturity of 1 , but has all of the essentials. Very sweet feminine head, long lean neck flowing into a level topline & tail set, moved with confidence. 3 Sharpies' Kanietter Seraphina. VB (4,3) 1 Day's Mandyset Rumour Has It at Decoverly. What a lovely 10 year old o/b lady enjoying her day out, super shoulder angulation, bone & depth of chest, shown in excellent coat & condition. Moved out with a sound driving action & used her tail to advantage. Sadly lost her drive in the challenge. J (6,2) 1 Hoskin's Gillancette Lady Of Leisure. Well grown 17 month o/b with a fabulous silky coat. Needs to body up in front. Won this class on her movement. 2 Jones' Alolfrana N' All That Jazz. Was 4th in quality PB class, balanced outline & in good coat & condition. Moved much better in this class. 3 Evans & Paterson's Gillancette Foxy Lady. YB(0) NB (6,4) 1 Dennis, Morgan & Harris's Gemsett Ice Cold In Alex at Mariglen. 2 Oliver's Bramstorm Speckled Wood. 3 Jones' Alolfrana N' All THat Jazz. Excellent shoulder & rear angulation, spring of rib & depth of chest, presented in hard condition. Moved with a precise gait using her tail. Flagged a confidence. Moved steadily with a slashing tail action. LB (5,2) 1 Dennis' Mariglen Sweet Pea. A very elegant o/b. Lean balanced head with dark oval eye, super upper arm angulation, straight front. In lovely coat & condition. Moved steady & true using her tail well. 2 Taylor & Atyeo's Samelen Golden Taffeta. Another nice bitch, just lost out to 1 on shoulder angulation. Pretty head, dark eye, lovely straight coat & a well set tail. Moved out freely. 3 Reeves' Bournehouse Golden Charm. O (1 ) 1 Stirk's Mariglen Perfect Day for Grakar. B/b with a typical feminine expression. Long lean head, dark oval eyes, lengthy neck leading into a straight front, with an excellent sweeping stifle. Moved out well with a ever wagging tail. BRB. SB (5,1) 1 Hoskin's Gillancette Lady Of Leisure. 2 Jones' Alofrana N' All That Jazz. 3 Evans & Patterson's Gillancette Lady Madonna. B (3,2) Mellish's Two beautifully matched dark b/b boys, moved well together. /^~ Judge Vicky McLoughlin.   21.07.2019 Southern English Setter Society Open Show - Memorial Awards Thank you to the Society for inviting me to judge at the SESS Open Show 2019. I was made very welcome and had a lovely day. Thank you also to those who entered the Memorial Classes. Presentation was exceptional and it was a privilege to judge your dogs. Michael Winch Special Yearling Memorial Award (7,2) 1. Sharples' Kanietter Seraphina. Well-constructed 8 month orange bitch with lean head, low ears, dark eyes and the softest expression. Clean neck into well laid shoulders with good return of upper arm. Deep chest, decent ribs, short coupling and level topline. Excellent bend of stifle to balance her front and a well set tail. Didn't give away her age on the move, covering the distance with drive and style. 2. Worthy's Tattersett Big Orange. 21 month orange dog in excellent coat and condition. Balanced head, good eyes and a kind expression. Decent neck flowing into good shoulders and a strong topline. Deep in chest, tight elbows and nicely bodied. Strong on the move, with lovely width to the rear. Not quite the angles of 1, but a very promising boy. 3. Taylor & Ateyo's Samelen Comeback Special. Gentle blue boy who just needs time to develop. Lesley Allan-Scott Open Memorial Award (6,2) 1. Thompsett's Radbrooks Sloop John B. Handsome tri dog of correct proportions. Chiselled head with low ears and expressive dark eyes. Long neck into nicely laid shoulders with good return of upper arm. Short coupling, standing well at the rear with excellent bend of stifle. Elegant on the move, elbows tucked in, lovely forward reach and using his tail well. Would like a little more body and coat to complete the picture. 2. Taylor & Ateyo's Samelen Golden Taffeta. Well-presented orange bitch, in good coat and condition. Strong head with dark eyes, a clean, elegant neck and level topline. Nicely balanced angles to her front and rear construction. Excellent spring of rib and good bone throughout. Not quite as true as 1 on the move today. 3. Stirk's Mariglen Perfect Day For Grakar ShCM. Lovely blue girl, so enthusiastic she gave her handler a hard time in this class. Eleanor Bryant
