Southern English setter society open show 2021

Firstly I would like to thank the committee for inviting me to judge the memorial classes at this well run open show. It was a lovely day in the sunshine and felt like a garden party. My thanks also go to the exhibitors who entered and gave me the opportunity to go over their dogs.

Michael Winch Yearling dog or bitch (3, 1a)

1st Mr N, Miss E M C Bryant & Mrs V Hollis’ PHENSET FINAL FANTASY

A pretty blue belton bitch, possesses a nice head with kind expressive eyes and low set ears. Long, lean neck leading to muscular shoulders and a level topline. Ribs well sprung for her age. Moved well considering the heat in the sunshine today.

2nd Mrs H J Wilkinson’s PHENSET FIRESTORM

Smart Orange dog who I see is a litter sibling to first. Similar marks apply here. This boy has a beautiful head, plenty of stop, dark expressive eyes and low set ears. Good topline and well set tail. Not quite as settled on the move as his sister today.

Lesley Allan-Scott Open Memorial Dog or Bitch (9, 5a)

1st Mrs S D Loakes’ RACHDALE PAINTED LACE AT GOLDBIRCH

This blue belton bitch commanded my attention from the moment she entered the ring. Coped very well with the heat. Very pretty head, love her blue patch around her eye. Bright and expressive dark eyes, enough stop and raised brow which gives her the most exquisite expression. Long and lean neck, leading to well placed shoulders and a level topline. Well sprung ribs, deep chest and strong through the loin. Well angulated. This girl didn’t disappoint on the move either, moved freely with grace and elegance but still showing power and drive from her hindquarters. Carried her head high. There’s no denying this girl’s quality, definitely one to watch with interest.

2nd Ms J Ateyo & Mr A Taylor’s SAMELEN COMEBACK SPECIAL

There’s no hiding the fact that I love this boy. Very much my type. Beautiful dark blue belton dog presented in plenty of coat and good condition. Beautiful head properties, muscular neck and shoulders leading to a level topline, and well set tail, deep in chest, widely sprung ribs and deep in back ribs. Plenty of bone without being too heavy to retain his elegance. Well angulated which gave a nice silhouette stacked.

Unfortunately he just didn’t seem to cope well with the heat today, but nevertheless I couldn’t deny his quality in head and body properties..
