Southern English Setter Society

Special Memorial awards

It was an honour and a pleasure to judge the two Special Memorial award classes at the Southern English Setter Society Open Show

Yearling 3/1abs

1st Tucker's MARIGLEN NIGHT WISH FOR WALSHAW A stylish upstanding 20mth old blue dog giving a lovely balanced profile. Good masculine head with dark eye and intelligent expression. Deep through body, strong bone, good feet and well muscled with true powerful accurate movement.

2nd Dennis' MARIGLEN UNWRAPPED JW Blue proportionally smaller bitch. Now I know they are litter mates and they give an ideal illustration of the difference between a dog and a bitch. All the same comment apply, just not quite so well muscled as the dog and therefore not such drive on the move as the dog.

Open 10/5

1st Derry's BALVENIE BLUE SENSATION A beautiful powerfully built mature dog, classic head with a noble, benevolent expression. Lengthy strong neck, good shoulders and good bone and feet. Well muscled quarters, another powerful mover.

2nd Reith's NIDDBECK SMOKEY ISLAY at OWNSWAY An eye catching, quality tri-colour bitch, all angels and construction correct. Just lost out to the maturity and style of the dog.

3rd Bishops' DYRHAM DE JA VUE A close decision between 2nd & 3rd. Blue bitch of equal quality not the precision and positive movement of 2nd.

The winning dog was also Best in Show. Well done! Sure he deserves top honours.
